Instructional (Coach Pitch) Division Rules

Instructional (Coach Pitch) Division

1.0 Game Length, Substitutions and Playing Time

1.1 No player may sit for two consecutive innings.

1.2 No player may sit more than two total innings per regulation game.

1.3 No player may play the same defensive position in the field more than two innings per regulation game.

1.4 A maximum of 10 defensive players will take the field per inning. If playing with 10 defensive players, four of the ten players must play in the outfield.

1.5 Free substitution: There is no limit as to how many times a player enters or leaves the game. The time of substitution is not determined by position in the batting order.

1.6 If a player arrives late, he or she should be played within two innings of arriving.

2.0 Batting

2.1 The lineup consists of all players present whether playing in the field or not. Batting order will be extended beyond 10 to include all players present.

2.2 If a player arrives late, he or she is added to the bottom of the lineup.

2.3 After five strikes the manager or coach should soft toss, set up a tee, or assist the batter if necessary.

2.4 Three outs per inning (beginning with the fourth game of the season).

2.5 If a team bats around the entire order before three outs, the inning is over once the last batter completes his or her at bat.

2.6 There are no walks or HBP at this level.

3.0 Baserunning

3.1 Stealing is not permitted.

3.2 No player can deliberately run into a defensive player who has possession of the ball with the intention of jarring the ball loose. Penalty: the runner’s out, and the ball is ruled dead.

4.0 Pitching

4.1 Coach pitch will be adhered to.

4.2 The manager or a coach of the team that is batting is delivering pitches to his or her own players.

4.3 The manager or coach delivering pitches will do so over hand while on the knee or while sitting on a bucket from in front of the mound.

5.0 Game responsibilities and safety issues

5.1 Home team staff are responsible for grooming the field. Both teams are encouraged to work together to accomplish this.

5.2 Adults will coach at first and third base, provided an approved third coach is in the dugout at all times. The dugout will not be left without adult supervision. All players with the exception of the fielders, batter, and baserunners, are to remain in the dugout at all times.

5.3 All male catchers must wear a protective cup while catching. The chest protector is worn with the protective flap down.

5.4 Pregame practice: each team should warm up in the outfield; if there is time, each team may take 10-15 minutes of infield practice provided that both teams have the opportunity to do so.

6.0 Miscellaneous Rules

6.1 When situations arise that are not covered in this addendum, the little league rulebook will govern all play.

6.2 Please review and familiarize yourselves with Rules 4.11, 4.12 and 4.13 in the little league rule book regarding partially completed and suspended games.

6.3 Under no circumstances will games be moved to the AAA or Majors field for play or to continue play.
